Dodge Challenger

The Challenger name has been around in the Dodge company since 1959 when it was a sub-category or option of the Dodge Coronet. It wasn't until 1970 when Dodge launched the Challenger as its own vehicle model. It was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, and Plymouth Barracuda.

The First generation lasted from 1970 until 1974 with many changes to the body style from year to year. It could be assumed that these many changes in a short amount of time could be because of the lack-luster sales in the initial designs and sales of the vehicle. In 1974, production of the Dodge Challenger would be ceased and not resurrected until 1978.

In 1978, until 1983, the Dodge Challenger of this generation goes almost forgotten with today's classic car enthusiasts and collectors.

Fortunately the story doesn't end there, as Dodge was able to fully reinvent and rebirth the Dodge Challenger in 2006 as they released a new design at a car show in Detroit. The new design was very similar to the first generation of Challengers. The Dodge Challenger is still going strong today as the 2021 model offers a standard option of a 485 horsepower 6.4 liter V-8 and either 6 or 8 speed transmission.
