Ford Mustang (1st generation)

Time for my favorite classic car ever, this may be a 2-part post. The Ford Mustang has been one of the most beautiful cars ever made. In fact, the launch of the Mustang in 1964-65 sparked a subcategory of cars known as pony cars. Pony cars are powerful sports cars, that are also compact that can come as coupes or convertibles. Also, the name "Mustang" is derived from the World War II fighter plane known as the p-51 Mustang.

The first generation mustang (1964 1/2-1972) have an older style look that also packed a punch in the engine. Some of the early, and even more current models, may have the name "Shelby" attached to them. That name is from the original creator of the Mustang, who worked with ford to develop the cars from 1964-1969, by the name of Carroll Shelby. The early models of the Ford Mustang can be differentiated by its grill and headlight set-up, as well as the body of the car from the roof to the rear-windshield. The first year Mustangs (1964 1/2) can be recognized by its 2 headlight and simple grill design with the Mustang logo right in the center of the grill. These first models came as both convertibles or fastback options.

Another edition of the mustang, in the mid 60s or a Ford model car that would ultimately end up merging with the Mustang brand was was the Cobra 427. Known for its overwhelming engine, fast for its time and even now, this mustang could go 0-60 in under 4 seconds. The first Cobra 427 was introduced around 1962 and the most famous version of the car was introduced in 1964. This model is easily identified with its body style, and lack of a roof. Specifically, the roadster models with their

The popular fastback option, arguably was most attractive to the 1967 model of the Mustang, or most overall attractive mustang as well. What separates a fastback from other versions or models of vehicles is the back of the car. The quick, downward slant to the rear windshield and body is what qualifies it as a fastback.

To round out this analysis of the first generation Mustangs, the 1969 and 1970 models are beasts in their own right compared to the models already mentioned. Known as the "Boss" models, these versions are all a little different depending on the engine and makeup, they can be identified as either the Boss 427, Boss 429, or Boss 302. Either way these cars have powerful engines and floodlights that differentiate it from other vehicles. Each edition has the number on the side of the car behind the front wheels for easy differences.
